The Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People, stretches across the Wilamette River in Portland, Oregon. On the Bridge you’ll find an unassuming vertical box on a stand displaying images. On the box, a utility gauge is offering abstract data. Meanwhile, the screen below depicts images that are incomprehensible. But closer analysis reveals that the data in the gauge and the strange imagery are somehow connected. It’s as if this machine has been carefully monitoring the different activity around the Willamette for the last several hundred years and is now serving up flashes of some of its memories.
There are four Flooded Data Machines on the bridge located at each Max Orange Line stop. Be sure to check it out while you are waiting for your train!
I did all of the image compositing, animation, 3d modeling, texturing, etc. I also did all of the work to create a sort of home-brew media player system for playing the program.
